Telluride Wedding | San Sophia Overlook

Mountain Wedding

Telluride Wedding at the San Sophia OverlookWedding day sunset in Telluride during the peak of fall colorsWedding Details:

There are weddings that are beautiful, and then there are weddings that feel epic from the very first frame. This Telluride Ski Resort fall wedding was firmly in the latter category—a celebration wrapped in golden aspen leaves, snow-dusted mountain peaks, and raw, emotional moments that unfolded effortlessly throughout the day.

Peak fall color in Telluride is fleeting, and this couple timed it perfectly. The mountains glowed with warm yellows and golds while fresh snow capped the surrounding peaks, creating a striking contrast that felt both dramatic and intimate. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was a no-expense-spared celebration designed to be experienced fully, not rushed.

The day began with preparations in different top end hotels. The guys got ready at the Peaks Resort & Spa, where laughter, tailored suits, and a calm confidence filled the room. This included a sneak peak of a private photoshoot book delivered to the groom. Early in the afternoon, they boarded the Gondola and made their way up the mountain well ahead of the ceremony—a quiet moment of anticipation high above Telluride that set the tone for what was to come.

Meanwhile, the women were getting ready at Hotel Madeline in a penthouse suite. This was surrounded by soft fall light, champagne, and emotional exchanges that felt unfiltered and real. These are the moments we love most. Its the fleeting glances, the deep breaths, the nervous smiles—captured photo-journalistically as the story unfolds naturally.

The ceremony took place at the iconic San Sophia Overlook, with Telluride spread out below and the mountains rising all around.  Lighting wise it worked though we think it would have been a more ideal location in the morning to have the light behind you. Some hikers were scattered on the mountains to enjoy the epic colors. Golden aspens framed the scene while guests gathered for a deeply meaningful ceremony with Jewish flairs to it. The breaking of the glass echoed across the overlook, followed by cheers and emotion—a moment charged with tradition, joy, and connection.

Because there was no first look, cocktail hour at Gorrono Ranch became the perfect window for couples portraits—and it was anything but ordinary. During Cocktail hour guests were greeted by alpacas (yes, alpacas).  This added a playful, unforgettable touch to an already elevated celebration. At the same time, we stole the couple away briefly to capture portraits bathed in fall color and alpine light, keeping everything relaxed and true to the day’s natural rhythm. This included some photos on the chair lift.

As the reception began, (the alpacas had left) the couple shared their first dance right on the deck at Gorrono Ranch, with mountains glowing in the background and guests gathered close. It felt spontaneous and intimate—one of those moments where everything aligns perfectly. Looking back with how good the views were and with the space you also could have had the wedding ceremony at this location and just kept it all in one place.  Telluride has that 360 view of perfection all around you.

The celebration only built from there. A 360 photo booth created swirling, high-energy videos that kept guests laughing and moving all night. The hora dance brought the room to life, with chairs lifted high and pure joy radiating from every direction. A secondary dessert bar tucked into another building offered guests a surprise sweet escape, while the main cake—designed in the shape of a dumbbell—paid homage to the couple’s shared love of fitness.

From start to finish, the party was electric. The dance floor never slowed, the energy never dipped, and every part of the night felt intentional and personal. This wedding was especially meaningful to us, as we had previously photographed their proposal at Sapphire Point Overlook. Being part of their story from “yes” to “I do” made documenting this day even more powerful.

We are endlessly inspired by weddings like this—where emotion leads, tradition is honored, and the experience is fully lived. Our approach is rooted in capturing real moments as they happen. This allows the day to unfold while we quietly document the laughter, tears, and in-between moments that make it unforgettable. Telluride in the fall will always be special—but this wedding made it truly extraordinary.
