Red Barn Group Picnic Area Wedding
DIY Wedding Venue in Colorado MountainsWedding Details:
The perk of a Do it Yourself (DIY) wedding venue is the cost savings. It is more work so having a coordinator to manage the setup will be extremely helpful. The venue is a great place for a mountain party that has good coverings and lots of space for guests. It is described as a rustic venue but really we found it was more of a repurposed space. With the trend of people looking to get out from under the big venues this space is perfect.
From a photography standpoint the best time to use it would be during fall colors as all the Aspen Trees would be going golden. This would also give more variety to the space. It is an ideal venue when you want to have a good party. We do recommend bringing in some supplemental lighting. The more the string lights like what see in backyards the better. This will allow the party to go on later into the night past sunset.
Red Barn Group Picnic Area Reservations
Reservations are a little harder to find as it is a state managed system that carried many functions. Here is where we found the link for checking the Red Barn Group Picnic Area – Deluxe availability check and reservations. Reservations are $150 per day and at that rate you might want to make a 2 day reservation to give more time for setup if you were thinking something more extensive. One thing we have learned is that with public venues you need to read all the fine print closely. Things are not run like a wedding venue but for that you get a huge cost savings. We were hearing things like rules about not adding more nails. They had tons already there in place so realistically it is not needed but it is worth noting to read thoroughly.
The ceremony area felt like it was for wedding ceremonies. It fit about 80 people though with doing a wider aisle they only did 72 chairs. The other people were in seating off to the side. Officially I read you can have up to 150 people there but realistically there was no enforcement or real ability to count particularly if people were shuttled into the spot. There is electricity and decent mountain bathrooms. Parking is a little tighter of a thing particularly at the site itself. There is another lot nearby where people can walk across the street. Road traffic is fairly minor as it is on a road end section where it turns into dirt for a few miles. The dirt road is fairly good. There is no cell coverage at the location.
