Anniversary Proposal in ColoradoProposal Details:
Months of planning the proposal and one text coupled with some curiosity blows the surprise. For Gerry this made for some stress and for Shelby this made for some ‘oops’ moments. While you might think this was a disaster really it just makes for a better story. We see a lot of proposals and there are a couple of things we notice. One is some guys come to us saying she will have no clue it will happen. After the proposals we also hear that some women completely saw it coming.
There are also those times when the couple practically nailed down the time and place. Couples go ring shopping together and the guy sometimes goes back that night to buy the ring they found. Some couples are having a kid together. There are even couples that have booked the venue for the wedding before they get engaged. We have had people propose on the engagement session after booking us for their wedding. All that to say not everyone is surprised and not everyone completely pulls it out of the blue. What we saw was very healthy in the relationship. She didn’t think it was going to happen at that moment, she cried (multiple eye wipe kind), and most importantly she cared more about being with him than how the delivery played out.
Backing up a bit on the relationship there have certain been some bumps along the way as this wasn’t the first shot at the getting engaged. Small town girl with big city guy means some changes. When you want to be with someone you find a way and you don’t let things deter you – even blowing the surprise. Think of it like this . . . no guy really would want to completely surprise the woman.
We were signed up for a hidden photographer proposal shoot at NCAR. It was the 2 year anniversary. When the surprise got blown he had changed up the shoot to be a planned couples photoshoot. We came prepared for anything but certainly didn’t know that he was still going to propose. She was thinking it would be in a few months. He was likely going to need to get down and tie his shoes a lot over the next few months. We were fairly far into the couples shoot when we had them go down the hill further for some ultra wide angle photos. It was then at that time when upon getting down closer to them that it went down. I got a clue that was clear to me yet still surprising. While the angles and lighting were not perfect like it would be in a planned session we still got the shot.
You can get proposal ideas from reading past blogs like this Boulder spot and read about how we do proposals on our engagement proposals page. If you like what you see here and are considering using this location here are some of the other shoots we have done at NCAR.
