Proposal Flagstaff Mountain | Summer
Sunset Summer Proposal At Lost Gulch on Flagstaff MountainProposal Details:
Finding the ideal location that works well for the plans can be challenging. For John and Jil it ended up being in Boulder, CO before they went off to the Vail area for the weekend. We had talked through a lot of options in Vail. Vail is in a valley and either you are driving to a place no where near Vail or you are going up the lifts. The main Gondola was closed likely due to the Covid stuff or with that as an excuse so that maintenance can be done. Either way you get up there and still need to walk around to get away from things.
Overall the challenge is finding a hiking look without the hike particularly when you just fly in that day from another state. She had landed earlier that day from California. Boulder was the place up on Flagstaff Mountain. We did the shoot up against sunset and into the dusk timeframe. This is a rather popular time up there so can be a bit more busy but we think it was less due to the particular circumstances.
Normally we would not recommend doing much shooting after the sunlight drops behind the mountains as it get flat and you never know if you will get the sun to light up the clouds. They got to the spot and he just happened to drop to one knee behind her while she was looking out at the mountains. She turned around with surprise and excitement at the marriage proposal.
You can get proposal ideas from reading past blogs and read about how we do proposals on our engagement proposals page. If you like what you see here and are considering using this location here are some of the other shoots we have done at Lost Gulch Overlook on Flagstaff Mountain. One thing to note is this is what we call the ‘alternate spot’ down a side trail.
