Loveland Pass Wedding | Summit County
Colorado Mountain High Alpine Wedding. Plan D?Wedding Day Details:
When you plan to have a Colorado Mountain wedding without all the fluff of a wedding and lots of meaning you have lots of options. Our favorite is when a couple find a random mountain and get married up there. If you hike much or trail run like Curt and Cori then you quickly realize there are a lot of options. I think things went in a top down approach starting with the 53 14ers and strongly considering getting married up on Handies Peak. They might have looked at the 637 13ers but perhaps went down to 11-12,000 ft with Mohawk Lakes outside Breckenridge. We ended up planning for Guanella Pass. It has an awesome view of 3 14ers while allows you to drive up to a massive open area.
If your going to get married above tree line you need to plan for afternoon weather. By plan we mean not be above tree line past noon. Starbucks in hand a 6am start time was no problem! Little do people realize that in the afternoon and evening you also get wind in Colorado which is a factor making pictures difficult. Colorado Mountain mornings are beautiful and predictable. We started at their home, had a first look, went up to Guanella Pass. This is when we come to Plan D (or maybe J?). Hot rod racing out of Georgetown up the mountain pass closed the pass for 5 hours mid day. Some ideas were tossed around and Loveland Pass was the winner! It is another meaningful spot with this being one of their first hikes together. In the end things worked out better than you would have thought!
It was a family affair, had a custom made cake (and cake topper), and a good blend of purple and gray colors. It was about the people and they had fun! There were some embarrassing moments that made for good laughter. Then there are those moments when the ring bearer throws the ring pillow and lays down in the ceremony. We think he really wanted to be a photographer as he took some wedding photos on our wide angle camera. He should work on his camera handling as he hit himself with it! Beau Jo’s in Idaho Springs served up some great beer and pizza for a mini reception!
