Devils Thumb Ranch Wedding | Tabernash
Mountain Wedding and PlayfulnessWedding Details:
Might have been the alcohol, oxygen shots, or more likely just the personality merger of two fun loving playful families that made the day full of laughter. For Chase and Ashley at almost every moment with the camera pointed in their direction for candid moments there were smiles and laughter about to burst out. Maybe laughter is a way of coping with the realization that your dress getting hemmed was done with pins rather than thread.
Upon hearing that the Violinist was 2.5 hours away in Fort Morgan at the start of the ceremony due to getting lost only can make you laugh. Only thing I can think is that they fat thumbed the address and went to Green Thumb Organic gardens and didn’t realize they were going away from the mountains? Either way Tracy with A Touch of Bliss Events improvised to the degree that nothing seemed off for the ceremony. Open mic toasts were likely the best picture of the playful personalities of the family. Honorable mentions are given to the brother seeking to roast Chase and to the father of the bride with the stories growing up. The award for best toast was by the grandfather who just “broke out of the home”.
The band The Magic Beans was certainly original blending space funk, ameritronica, and groove grass type stylings into sometimes even one song. They certainly made for a lively reception with original music. As for some other unique things there was a cake pulls on one cake and a secondary chocolate cake topped with a Stil Chainsaw.
Devils Thumb Ranch Review:
If your looking for a gorgeous well maintained mountain ranch wedding venue put Devils Thumb Ranch on your list of locations. There are a number of different ways they can do weddings there based on the sizing. The Bridal party was in the Yager House with the guys up in the Attic. The ceremony was out on the grass just behind the Yager house. Cocktail hour made use of the deck and the Timber house. The band was setup in the Broad Axe Barn for the reception. They made use of a large long table and round tables for the reception. This gives an elegance but some diversity to the space.
There were trees with lights running up them as well as tall vases of flowers and candles filling the tables. The place is gorgeous and requires very little effort to make it look high end cause it looks beautiful. If there were a couple things we wish we could change the main one would be where the sun is in the evening. I know it is a lot to ask but it would be great if we had some mountains to the west or well the sun in setting in the east. I am rather sure we won’t get that wish so let us explain our thoughts.
From the perspective of a photographer lighting is crucial to getting photos. If a photographer tells you otherwise then they likely also will tell you that they can get the sun to set in the east. The basic problem is on a bright sunny day you either get harsh shadows on the face or your blinded by the bright sun causing you to be squinty. To overcome this you either find shade (which there isn’t), turn the couple to the side of the sun (photoshop required for cleaning up things), or do a rain dance and get clouds to form over the west side of you while leaving you blue skies in the east. We opted for the rain dance method of getting good lighting.
You can check with the videographer Studio Carrasco if there is any footage. If you think at this point we are crazy note that its half joking and half serious as there was a little dance to inspire the family photos. Either way we love getting the best imagery and so we took some creative liberty to make it happen. The other thing we wish we could tweak would be getting exclusive use of the ranch. This won’t happen so just know you might see someone in the hot tub or pool. Hopefully it will not be one of your groomsmen.
