Most women will take about 1 to 2 steps backward when a guy gets on one knee.  It is one of those things that indicates surprise.  You cannot fake or recreate surprise which is why we love proposal hidden photography.  In this case she stepped back 6 steps.  At that distance you know the surprise is huge.  Some guys might get a bit worried at the feeling of ‘where are you going’.  If you need some comfort – stepping back is only but turning her back to you is not okay.   We think women go backward cause they are getting overwhelmed with emotion.  That is in part why they can fall to their knees or bend over like they are going to collapse.

Thankfully he stayed down on one knee rather than going after her as the emotion continued to flow.  The open mouth reaction to the ring was one of those candid moments you could never recreate.  That along with when we were pointed out taking the photos.  After the proposal we took some more photos into the sunset.  It was like a mini engagement session with the Breckenridge ski slope peaks for a background.  The main difference is perhaps the clothing would not be perfect but the emotion makes for crazy fun photography.
