Who would not want a first look with your dog?  For Ben and Karissa their dog was between his legs checking out the bride dog momma as she came up the trail.  We were in the Woodland Park area outside of Colorado Springs.  From the Edgewood Inn venue location it was around a 5 minute drive down the road toward the Rampart Reservoir.  We call it Rampart Ridge. There were some people out there lounging when we arrived.  Sorry for killing the romantic time out on the hillside whomever you were on a date.  Thankfully, they were not being too into each other as that might have been a little awkward.  The idea is that it is a locals known spot and no somewhere on the map.  The perk is there is a good view of Pikes Peak from the ridge.  We used it for the first look, couples photos, and bridal party photos.  From there we made our way back to the venue for a short wedding ceremony followed by cocktail hour.  Dinner was a family style meal.  Outside of that the other unique thing was a corn on the cob bar.  There were so many things you could put on your corn that it was kinda an adventure to fill little sections with different flavors.  That same table later became the s’more bar as the night went on.  The day did not have a lot of events and was kept rather simple.  The dance floor had the most unique DJ / entertainment we have ever seen at a wedding.  It was outside the box but refreshing.  We liked it but see below for some other takes on it.  As the night went on the caterers left and the bar was self serve.  Hello shots!

Edgewood Inn Weddings Review:

The venue will give you the backyard wedding at home feel.  It was a home that seemed to be used as a bed and breakfast and then being expanded in use for weddings.  It is one of those places you can stay and get a personal touch.  Because of the venue dynamic they do not seem to be able to host multiple weddings a weekend as the couple will have been staying at the venue.  With it not being a normal venue there are some unique things they like to do such as a group photo.  The place is not ideal for evening lighting but we are at least elevated.  The only thing that would have made things better would have been doing the wedding ceremony on the upper deck.  We say this as you have this amazing view of Pikes Peak but are limited in the angles you can get on it when on the lower porch area.  Doing it below requires the downstairs to be converted for the reception.  It might be a logistics thing as the ceremony chairs are used for the reception but also that people like doing cocktail hour on the deck.  There is a bar downstairs so we think you could reverse things and get a better ceremony view if you rented some additional chairs or something.

On the DJ end of things we have never seen that style of entertainment for a wedding.  They are not tied to the venue but seem to do a number of the weddings at the location.  Based on the guests being vocal about their dislike for it (with a couple expletives) we think it is one of those things you either love or hate.  From our end the challenge was we had light coming from multiple directions.  There was the DJ lighting that was colored / lasers used in all dancing.  There was then a projector running to project very bizarre videos that went with the music.  The result is people had the images spill onto them and most comically brand them with the DJ’s company typically on their face or chest.  The other unique thing was we think we will need to pack ear plugs as a standard in the camera bag.  The philosophy was to amp up the music as the night goes on we think to stir up the party.  The result is that you were either the little girl balled up in the corner covering her ears or your ears were ringing by the end of the night.  When you look up the DJ the services are listed as ‘permenantly closed’ as of the time of writing this so we are not sure if that is just a mistake.
