Barefoot Bridal Party Wedding in LyonsWedding Details:

The bridal party were intentionally barefoot.  For Aron and Mikayla this was something that reflects a little of how they made the day their own and had fun with it.  For us we have seen a lot of things from a dog maid of honor to the bride riding off on a horse in her dress.  Often couples will go for some kind of cool looking socks and in this case there was the more natural one with nature kind of feel where they were asked to deposit the shoes (and socks) into a collective bag before the ceremony.  Maybe it was because they were at planet bluegrass and it is only fitting to feel the bluegrass below your feet while you listen to bluegrass music?  We are not grass experts but normally see the bluegrass species in places like Kentucky.  There were some what we will dub hippie like drums for music in the ceremony.  We call them that as we cannot figure out what exactly they were called and the musicians had the free spirit look.  As the ceremony was about to start some light rain started to come through the area.  If you think this would be a nightmare for a wedding know it was no big deal.  If it were pouring rain then it would likely start to impact things but for the lightness of the rain it was something we just rolled with for the day.  Another first outside of the barefoot bridal party was the use of a hammer and nails in the ceremony.  Inside a crate they placed some letters, vows, and a bottle of tequila.  After putting them in there they used a hammer to officially close it up for 5 years from now.

When it came to the reception the night was a certain party.  It is one of those where you always had to be on as you never knew when something random would happen.  The best example was the groom being toss up in the air around 6-10 feet.  There were also some things like the Bridesmaids coordinated dance for the groom and some events that seemed to randomly occur.  They had a Photo Booth in the corner by the bar and some assorted cupcakes and cookies for the desert.  Spice of Life was providing the  catering of chicken and ribs for dinner.  Dancing – lots of dancing filled the night.  Some cigars were smoked as well as some recreational cannabis.  Pair that with the margaritas and you have a festive party.

Planet Bluegrass Review:

We never knew it was there but love the venue!  Planet Bluegrass is just outside of main street of Lyons.  We have drove right by it countless times and never noticed it there.  As you might guess it is primarily a concert and festival venue.  It however works well to use it for a mountain wedding venue.  The ceremony for their wedding was out on the lawn  overlooking a rock wall and a stream.  It was out under the trees by the beach area.  The reception was in the windflower pavilion.  From a theatrical lighting perspective we can tell that it is primarily designed around concerts yet will adapt well to weddings.  As a standard there is a bar concessions area that was to be used for cocktail hour.  Due to a little bit of rain from some mostly dry thunderstorms the guests unanimously voted to move cocktail hours into the reception hall.  It nonetheless would have excellent flow for guests on a normal wedding day.  If there were one thing we think would be less than ideal would be that you have to walk a little bit to the bathrooms.  In other words they are not located at the pavilion which confused a few guests at first.  It is an extremely minor thing.  On the upside if any guests decide to take a swim in the creek their are showers in the bathrooms.

For this wedding the guys got ready in the Yurt.  I am thinking most weddings would have the women in there but they were across the street in some WeeCasa Homes.  The tiny homes are so freaking awesome and cute.  The bridal home was basically like a hobbit home with a round door.  If you are looking in the Lyons area that place also serves as a wedding venue.  There is not a permanent structure there and that might be a zoning thing as it was reclaimed property from the flood years ago.  The homes are all able to be trailered out and the reception would be under a tent.  We certainly love the area and look forward to the time we would get to shoot there again.
