Proposal | Mount Blue Sky | Idaho Springs
Propose on a Colorado MountainProposal Details:
Proposals on a 14er take on a whole new mountain look. For Denny and Shay they were in town from New Jersey. He had been planning a surprise trip to Colorado for a Red Rocks show. We could tell he had done his research and really thought through things out of a desire to make it special, make it work well, etc. They were staying in Evergreen. Just down the road – well . . . 37 miles of beautiful mountain driving is the summit of Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mount Evans). As the state of New Jersey is only 70 miles wide this may seem like a lot but its not. Nonetheless they made it to the top past all the mountain goats and cliff edges.
Denny had bought her a dress which I believe was part of this trip of surprises. Not sure who bought the $6 shoes but the cardboard bottom and rocky terrain wasn’t ideal for them. Thankfully 6″ heels were not in order. Either way we think this might have been an upsetting distraction that didn’t matter in the end as she was so happy with the purpose and reason. Upon getting to the summit things were rather empty up there. There was one man and his dog Scout. Despite knowing there was going to be a proposal there and well reasoning would say its to the woman in the dress the guy asked them to take his photo on the rock.
For the proposal things were a complete surprise yet a very easy YES for her. After taking some photos we made our way down at which point we hear the story of the first date. There are a few key details missing but the main idea is she was arrested due to a prank that involved soap that fell into a fountain. Not sure what Denny did for her in that scenario since it was the first date. Obviously, he didn’t say ‘I’ll call you’ as she is put in the back of a police cruiser handcuffed but likely was more supportive. Either way it clearly was a bonding experience and if you can start things off with getting arrested then you can get through many other things.
You can get proposal ideas from reading past blogs and read about how we do proposals on our engagement proposals page. If you are thinking of using this location here are the shoots up on Mount Blue Sky. A couple notes on the location to keep in mind are that it is only open between Memorial Day and Labor Day due to the high altitude and the winter conditions. It also can be a 35-40 degree difference between the surrounding city locations. Thunderstorms can come through at any point, there are those 1000 foot cliff edges, and well drink plenty of water. On the upside there are many bathrooms on the way up so that when you drink plenty of water you are not inconvenienced since there are no trees to hide behind. Since we cannot end on that note let us just say it is an amazing mountain proposal location with gorgeous views 14,265 feet up!
